Description

Want that perfect addition to your work badge? These Stomach Size Badge attachments, just under 3 1/2″ by 2 1/4″, are great for anyone helping Mom with lactation in the first three days. Made of thick plastic, these badge cards aren’t a flimsy laminate.  They will last forever. Clearly showing Baby’s actual stomach breast milk capacity on day one and day three, you can reassure parents they don’t need to supplement their breastfeeding or over feed the formula fed infant. Baby’s stomach size starts out at the size of a marble at birth and gradually increases to hold more milk.

Based on the study by Scammon & Doyle that involved 16,000 test weights of over 600 breastfed infants, the Day One is the size that would hold 7cc of thick colostrum at each feeding and Day Three will hold 27cc colostrum mixed with incoming mature milk (about the size of a ping pong ball). The card shows the parents the reality of baby’s slowly expanding stomach capacity.

These cards are a perfect gift for the staff on the mother-baby unit. Especially after they have completed the training to work towards the Baby Friendly designation. Staff can flip up the card that says “I have been trained to help you with breastfeeding” in English and Spanish. They make marvelous Holiday gifts or gifts of staff appreciation!
